The Victorian Lives and Letters Consortium’s editions of nineteenth-century life writing are formed through collaboration. They offer an opportunity for the publication of peer-reviewed scholarly work by a broad community of contributors and ultimately rely on crowd-sourced transcriptions that are approved by our Advisory Boards. Our Content Management System (CMS) is under construction with an intended launch date of spring 2016. The first “wing” of the VLLC will consist of the Carlyle Letters Online, published by Duke University Press. Our digitization of archival materials by Michael Field, William Gladstone, and John Ruskin is proceeding apace.

We welcome individuals who would like to join our enterprise in a variety of capacities.

Currently, transcription work is the most needful activity. But we would also be glad to hear from individuals interested in other kinds of contribution including annotation of transcripts or editing of metadata. To learn more about how you can participate, please contact the VLLC director responsible for the archive in which you are interested. For Michael Field, please contact Marion Thain (New York University); for William Gladstone, please contact Brent E. Kinser (Western Carolina University) or David R. Sorensen (St. Joseph’s University); and for John Ruskin, please contact Francis O’Gorman (University of Leeds). Technical inquiries about data formats, metadata, or aspects of the CMS we are developing, please contact Colin F. Wilder (University of South Carolina).
